Bulusan Volcano remains to be in the state of unrest following one of its biggest explosions around 9:37 A.M. today, July 31, spewing ash at least 5 kilometers upwards for 20 minutes before drifting west-southwest and west northwest, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.
Resident volcanologist Bella Tubianosa of the Bulusan Observatory Center located in barangay Cabid-an, Sorsogon City, said ash falls were initially experienced in barangays Cogon, Gulang-Gulang, Bolos, Monbon and Gabao in Irosin town, and Putting Sapa, Sangkayon and Buraburan in the municipality of Juban.
“The ash explosions were accompanied by rumbling sounds and identified as an explosion type earthquake,” she elaborated.
Within the next hour, the ash falls reached areas as far as the towns of Bulan, Magallanes, Casiguran and Castilla evidenced by information and field reports relayed by resident-observers from said towns to the Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC).
